Ann casey keeps us up to date with her attempts to lose weight with motivation

Week two

I have just spent the last week in a state of surprise - and the amazement intensified tenfold when I went for my second consultation to find I lost 7lbs - half a stone in just seven days, but without feeling any real hunger!
I thought I would be absolutely starving when I saw the suggested diet plan and being limited to just two portions of carbohydrate a day seemed almost impossible.
It meant no porridge or Weetabix in the morning for me, because I really had to have at least one slice of bread and a small portion of potato, pasta or rice, later in the day - that was my choice - everyone can choose when they have their carbs, so if you want your cereal, you can have it!
However I was surprised at how little hunger I felt. The portein bars which tasted just like delicious chocolate bars helped keep hunger at bay. There are other protein snacks - you can choose which two you want and some are porridge, soups or other savoury snacks, but I stuck to the sweet ones.
I had an egg each morning, cooked in a variety of ways, with some fruit, while lunch included something like ham or chicken slices, or a bit of salmon with plenty of salad and one slice of bread.
For dinner, I had some kind of cooked meat with vegetables and a small portion of carbohydrate such as potato rice or pasta.
I snacked on fruit and two of the protein bars.
On this my first week. I have one fruity bar covered in what they called yoghurt, but which tasted like white chocolate to me and a nutty chocolate bar that was truly delicious. Both bars were very much more filling than an ordinary chocolate bar and really did stop me from being hungry, as well as satisfying my sweet tooth.
While the diet plan is important and the protein is excellent at keeping  me from being hungry, some of the best parts of the programme are the book and CD.
Dr Larocque outlines in both the book and the CD, stories of people on their weight loss journeys, troubles they run intowhere they turn to food and ways of dealing with difficulties rather than turning to food.
As well as these informative and thought provoking  pieces on CD and in the book, the CD also features a seven minute mind programming segment, which must be listened to when relaxing.
It lulls you into a state of deep relaxation and reinforces the message that you are responsible for your own behaviour - I found it invaluable when later, at times of stress my first thought was of turning to food, but I found myself repeating his words about being calm and responsible for my own actions.
This really is what so is so special about this weight loss programme - it is not just about what you eat, but also why you eat.
So now I am embarking on my second week of the programme and anticipate a few hurdles this week. My son is graduating, so eating out will be a challenge and I am also visiting an aunt who cooks delicious meals that aren’t exactly known for their fat free healthiness!
I will do my best and let you know how I get on next week!
