Transform your Fitness with David Mccabe

VIDEO: Transform your Fitness with David McCabe - Week 4

Home from Home

I hope you enjoyed last week’s column and set your new lifestyle goals. This week I’m going to help you to choose the best place for you to exercise. Choosing the right place to work out can have a big impact on the chances of successfully achieving your goal.

If you’ve chosen to walk the dog – is there a beach or a public park where you can safely exercise? Perhaps there is a place nearby with attractive scenery where you will look forward to visiting. Exercising outdoors can be really enjoyable – you’re out in the fresh air, watching the seasons change and observing the wildlife.

If a fitness class is more your style – do the facilities suit your needs? Are the showers and changing rooms clean and serviced regularly? This is important if you plan to exercise on your way to work or during your lunch break. Do the class times coincide with times that you are free? How many will be in the class and how spacious is the fitness studio? It is important to have adequate space to exercise in comfort and not feel overcrowded or worry that you are encroaching on someone else’s space.

If you decide to join a gym, talk to the staff and see if you can get a day trial to find out if it suits your needs. Have a chat with some of the members – would they recommend it to their friends? Why? It’s also a good idea to visit the gym at the times that you plan to go. There’s no point dropping in on a Sunday afternoon when it’s quiet, there aren’t any queues for the machines and the swimming pool is empty. If you plan to exercise at 6pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday – stop by at 6pm on these days before you sign up. Make sure you choose the right gym for you.

Maybe you’d like to join a local sports team. Find out what times they train and the days they usually play matches. Do they have to travel far to compete against other teams? Can you spare the time? There may be other teams in your area that only play against local teams.

Where you exercise is key to your success. If you are working out in a place that makes you feel happy and confident, you will be much more inclined to stick with your fitness schedule. Don’t be afraid to get advice and ask for help. It’s important when you are taking an exercise class, training with weights or machines that you are doing the exercises properly. You don’t want to injure yourself. It’s better to learn the safest and most effective approach right from the start. Soon you’ll feel at home in the place you workout. So, choose where you want to exercise and transform your body!

Next week I’ll be taking you through the various training styles. For now check out this week’s video #4 (below), and try my recipe for raw choco-caramel bars.
