Navan soprano Louise Martyn hosts a concert on Friday 21st September in St Patrick's Catholic Church, Slane, when she will be joined by English soprano Sophie Pullen, her sister Clare Martyn on marimba and accompanist Dearbhla Brosnan.
The evening will consist mostly of classical music encompassing repertoire from Handel to Puccini, Irish and English Song through to 1940s' Broadway hits. Louise, a music graduate of NUI Maynooth is in her second year of a vocal postgraduate degree in the Vocal and Operatic Department of Birmingham Conservatoire, alongside her talented classmate Sophie Pullen. She has recently returned home to Navan after participating in Oxenfoord International Summer School in Edinburgh. She concluded her first year in Birmingham with no less than the title role of Dido in the Conservatoire's Double Bill Summer Production of 'Dido and Aeneas' while Sophie played the title role of Galatea in 'Acis and Galatea'.
As the winner of Count John McCormack Bursary at Easter, Louise was invited to sing in the Mansion House in Dublin for the Lord Mayor and also won the runner-up prize in the Edward Brooks English Song Prize in the Conservatoire in the month of May.
Furthermore she won the Soprano Solo Competition at this year's Feis Ceoil in Dublin and therefore will be performing in the John Field Room in the National Concert Hall on Monday 24th September at 8pm.
Clare has just finished school at St Michael's Loreto Navan and will commence her studies of Modern and Commercial Music at DIT while continuing her study of percussion at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. She has performed with the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland for the last three years and was also a member of the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland. Clare is also a member of the K&S Band and was recently performing at the Rose of Tralee Festival with the band. Louise is particularly looking forward to singing in Slane Church after having a most successful concert in Navan last year with Andrew and Niamh Gavin.
