Community Against Cuts public rally

Dear sir - I would like to invite the people of Meath to attend a Community Against Cuts Campaign Rally which will be held at 2pm at Kennedy Place, Navan, on 24th March. This rally will be a peaceful and positive expression of the need for change to the policy of cuts. It will be addressed by a number of community groups and unions. A series of meetings have been held around the county over the last two months at which hundreds of people have articulated how they feel with regards the damage that is being done to communities through out the county. There is significant suffering being experienced by a increasingly disheartened population. Major cuts that have been imposed on in education, health, welfare and on rural communities. Cuts to DEIS schools, to to, three and four teacher schools, to guidance councillors in secondary schools, to CE schemes, to hospital and nursing homes, to services such as the Women's Refuge and to rural Garda stations are hurting local communities. People who are struggling to make ends meet are now being asked to pay a household charge, the septic tank charges, broadcast charges and water charges. The Communities Against Cuts Campaign is a cross-community campaign that seeks to give a voice to these people. We do not expect people to agree with every single issue that we are campaigning on but if we work together we can convince the government that there is a better way. The Irish people have been far too passive for far too long. Nearly half a million people are unemployed and 70,000 people emigrated last year. At the end of March €3.1 billion will be put into the Anglo Irish Prommissory Note. This is money that would be better spent on the needs of the Irish people. The end of March will also see the last day for registration of the household charge. I urge the people to stand with us on 24th March in solidarity with the campaign. We ask you to spread the word, to help the organising committee, to encourage all you know to attend and give a positive voice to the people. Please call me on (087) 270 7985 to confirm your attendence. Yours, Peadar Tóibín TD Cathaoirleach, Communities Against Cuts Campaign.
