BREAKING - Tóibín to form new party

Deputy Peadar Toibin has mooted the possibility of setting up a new 32 county political party, following the announcement of his resignation from Sinn Fein this morning.
He said there were a lot of people with both Sinn Fein and Fianna Fail backgrounds, who had indicated to him recently that they were frustrated with the leaderships of their parties and were looking for some other vehicle to work towards Irish unity, economic justice and the right to life.
"I want to spend time now meeting as many people as possible with a  view to building an organisation.
"I'm not being prescriptive about it - it could be a group of independents but my view is it need to be a political party," he said.
Deputy Toibin said that almost 30 per cent of the population now feels that it doesnt have a voice in Leinster House and it was not good to have people on the margins of democracy.
He said his resignation from the party was a long time coming.
"It is tough going. My biggest difficulty in making the decision was the very decent people I was working with in Meath - we were a phenomenal team as public representatives. That is why I spent so much time trying to make it work," he said.
