Gardai are investigating an incident in Co. Meath where young girls out playing were allegedly being secretly filmed by a man parked in a local estate.

The young girls were out playing at an estate in Duleek at 12.15pm yesterday (Tuesday) when adults reportedly noticed a man was filming, using an old video recorder with flip-out screen from a van nearby.

It's alleged he sped off in a 141 D Peugeot Partner van when approached, according to the Facebook post on the Duleek and District news page.

It's also claimed that the vehicle registration plates, noted by local residents, may have been false.

It's understood local community CCTV is being viewed in ongoing investigations by gardai.

Gardai have confirmed that the incident was reported to Ashbourne gardai yesterday and is being investigated.

Local Cllr Sharon Keogan has asked parents to remain vigilant.

"This is a very worrying time for parents and I would ask all to remain vigilant.    There are a lot of kids of all ages playing in that estate - as in all estates around Duleek - in the good weather during the summer holidays.

"I'd just like to ask everyone to just keep an eye out on their children when out playing and report any suspicious activity to gardai."
