John Bruton pays tribute to Pat Donnellan

Former Taoiseach, John Bruton, has paid tribute to Fine Gael party activist, Pat Donnellan, who has died following a long illness.

Mr Bruton said: "I am really sad to learn of the death of the death last night of Pat Donnellan of Newtown, The Ward, a leading member of the Kilbride branch of Fine Gael."

"After retiring from a distinguished public service career, Pat became a dedicated full time activist in the party in Meath.  He was exceptionally effective in behind the scenes work, allowing others to take the credit for his many successes.

"He was diplomatic in dealing with the differences of opinion that are a necessary part of politics. He had a deep and generous interest in the lives of other people, and a great gift for friendship. To his wife Ann, and all his family, Finola and I extend heartfelt sympathy at this very difficult time."
