Latest update from Irish Water

Water supply has begun to return to all areas of East Meath affected by outages in recent days but some outlying areas may take longer to get normal supply back as reservoirs refill.

It is important that customers throughout Lough and Meath continue to conserve water as much as possible over the coming days to allow water levels throughout the network to return to normal. High demand for water due to the hot weather, allied with issues associated with last week’s burst pipe at the Staleen Water Treatment Plant means that water levels throughout the network remain lower than normal.

Supply was restored from the Cairns reservoir last night and communities served by this reservoir, including Ardcath, Clonalvey and surrounding areas should see their water returning over the morning and afternoon.
Supply is also back to Duleek, Donore, Ashbourne and Ratoath. However, it may take longer for customers in higher or more outlying areas to get a normal supply back and there may be intermittent outages and/or reductions in pressure over the course of the coming days.

As water returns there is also a possibility that some customers may have airlocks in their internal plumbing. For advice on dealing with airlocks please see the Irish Water website, https://www.water.ie/support/questions-and-answers/how-to-check-for-and-clea/

A number of alternative water supplies are available in these areas and will remain in place until full supply has been restored. Supplies of bottled water have also been distributed to local schools and vulnerable customers.

Irish Water would like to thank customers throughout Meath and Louth for their patience over recent days as we worked to restore supplies and apologise the inconvenience caused as a result of this incident.
