Ruairi going places with Bus Eireann

Ruairí Meehan from Dunshaughlin Community School has won the eastern region Bus Éireann ‘Go Places’ competition which invited transition year students from all over the country to submit projects – in words, photographs, or videos – about their journey to school.

Ruairi’s submission creatively highlighted his journey to Dunshaughlin Community College. He included some interesting stats about the school, including a breakdown of how all the students and staff travel there, and even featured some aerial drone shots.

“1033 students and 89 staff members, all coming together in one place. But how to they get there?
293 walk, 353 travel by car, 474 travel by bus and 1 scoots!” – he said.

Ruairí was one of three lucky regional winners who won an iPad each with the overall winner – Alannah Doherty from Manorhamilton, Leitrim - receiving a day trip to Tayto Park for her TY class. Ruairí travelled to Bus Éireann HQ in Dublin - along with the other winners - to receive his trophy and prize.

Congratulating Ruairí, Ray Hernan, CEO of Bus Éireann said: “Bus Éireann is proud to be operating the School Transport Scheme on behalf of the Department of Education and Skills for the past 50 years. Ruairí’s entry was really interesting as he highlighted not only his journey to school, but also that of other pupils who attend the school.

“Ruairi’s digital skills are very impressive, and he used them to creatively – and in a humorous way – to tell the story of how everyone in the school travels there every day. From all of us at Bus Éireann, I would like to convey a big congratulations.”
