Athboy Post Office raiders had flammable liquid with them

The armed gang that raided Athboy Post Office this morning may have had flammable liquid with them, according to reports.

Local councillor David Gilroy said that this  could have had terrifying consequences.

"I am encouraging anybody who noticed anything or any behaviour that was suspicious to contact Gardai.
"It was a terrible thing to happen to people going about their business and trying to provide a service, for them to go in and terrorise the staff like that.
"It is important these peopel are caught quickly and face the full rigors of the law."

Gardai in Navan are investigating an armed robbery in which an axe was used and a member of staff slightly injured.

At 9.20am up to four males dressed in black entered the Post Office threatened staff and demanded money. One of the males was armed with an axe. The men left with a sum of cash. A member of staff received minor injuries and is being treated at scene by ambulance staff.

The suspects used a blue 03D Toyota Avensis car which went in the direction of Navan junction 9 where the car was burned out. The suspects got into a black car and headed towards Dublin.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have seen suspicious activity around the Post Office prior to the robbery or as the suspects fled the scene and also for anyone who may have seen activity around the car that was found burning out on the M3 as described above, to contact Navan on 046 9079930, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
