5.15pm Over 400 homes in the Longwood area are without power. The fault was reported at 5pm and estimated time for power to be restored is 8.45pm. Earlier fault in Navan is resolved.

 

4.20pm :Bus Eireann will not operate any services in Leinster and Munster tomorrow, Friday 2nd March. All Expressway inter-city services nationwide will also not operate.

3.30pm AA Roadwatch-

 Road conditions are very poor around Navan and Trim at the moment. The N51 is closed between Slane and Drogheda due to heavy snowfall. It’s also very icy on all routes in the Ashbourne area.

 

2pm ESB Networks have a major fault in the Navan area leaving hundreds of homes without power. Latest information on powercheck is that 740 customers are affected and the estimated restore time is 5pm.

The risk to life and limb should not be underestimated, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has just warned the country.

With the red alert extended across the country he warned that nobody should be on the road after 4pm today and everyone should be indoors from 4pm until 3pm tomorrow.

Meanwhile, parents are advised to make sure children have come in well in advance of the 4pm deadline.

11.30am Latest Statement from Meath County Council

Snow ploughing and road clearance is continuing this morning.

Roads on the gritting network remain passable with extreme care.

At 2pm all operations will be stood down and crews will be mobilised tomorrow as soon as it is safe to do so.

People are asked to heed the warning to stay indoors during the blizzard conditions and while the red level weather alert is in place.

 

The GAA and NEFL have confirmed that all club games in the county this weekend are POSTPONED.

 

AA Roadwatch:
In Ashbourne, heavy snow and icy roads particularly on secondary routes. There has been heavy snow in Navan with Garda saying conditions treacherous. In Trim, there are frequent flurries of snow.

 

Lidl: On the back of the extended Government advice to stay indoors, which now applies to the whole of the Republic of Ireland, we will extend the previously communicated closures in Leinster and Munster to the rest of the Republic of Ireland. All stores will now be closed from 3pm today until Friday afternoon.
Regional management may make decisions to extend these closures at local level depending on the weather conditions in their area.

 

Bus Eireann has cancelled all road passenger and school transport services today and will review the situation for tomorrow later on today, but significant disruption is likely then too. All school transport services will remain off in accordance with red alert policy.
