PAUL MURPHY

A Navan councillor has hit out at the littering of one of the town's main streets which he said is occurring on most Sunday mornings.
Visitors to Watergate Street yesterday (Sunday) morning were greeted with the sight of the contents of black plastic bags spilling out onto the street.
Cllr Wayne Forde said he had received numerous calls regarding rubbish overflowing on Watergate street every Sunday morning. "This must not be allowed to continue as it's a disgusting sight. As people say 'first impressions last' and we can't let tourists be seeing this".
"We want tourists to visit our town and they should be able to do so without being confronted by piles of rubbish on the street. It is very important that Meath County Council contact people to ask them to leave the rubbish out early on a Monday morning or put out more bins so all the rubbish fills into them."

A spokesperson for Meath County Council said they are investigating.
