New stadium planned for Pairc Tailteann.

Green light for new Páirc Táilteann stadium

Meath GAA's plans to transform Pairc Tailteann into a 21,000 all seater stadium has received a massive boost this morning with the news that the project has been granted full planning permission by Meath County Council.
The approval of planning permission allows the Co Board to proceed with the first phase of the project, which would see the construction of a new 4,000 seater stand.
There is the option of building the first phase on the current terrace side of the ground thus creating two covered stands at the ground.
The planning permission granted represents the most ambitious redevelopment ever undertaken at the ground which has not received a facelift since reopening in 1988.
Permission for the redevelopment will remain in place for 10 years and officials of the Co Board will now engage with council officials to discuss their approach to the project.
Welcoming the news this morning local TD Shane Cassells, nephew of 1988 All-Ireland SFC winning captain Joe Cassells, agreed that it was great news for Meath GAA and the town of Navan.
"This is great news for Meath GAA and all supporters of our games in the county to see planning for a new 21,000 seater stadium get the green light," remarked Deputy Cassells.
"It will transform not only the old ground but will be a massive injection of positive energy into the centre of Navan.
"I want to pay tribute to all of the development team and in particular to Chairman Noel Dempsey on spearheading this project."
In the past week Deputy Cassells has made an official call on the Minister for Sport Shane Ross in the Dáil to allocate funds from the government's €50m Regional Sports Infrastructure fund towards the redevelopment plans.
