Recalling bygone village life in Ballivor

Noted Ballivor native John Quinn will be launching a new book relating to Ballivor on Sunday 4th February in McLaughlins at 12.30pm. The new book is entitled 'Courthouse Conversations' and is based on the memories of three of the McGearty family and John’s own memories.  

John Quinn says: "It is a ramble through the memories of the Ballivor we grew up in and an insight into the life of the village around the middle of the twentieth century.”
John will have copies of his new book on sale on the day, priced €5. He will also have a number of CDs of his acclaimed documentary “A Day on the Bog.” which will also sell for €5. 
John Quinn is a writer and broadcaster. He retired from RTÉ Radio in 2002 after a distinguished career of twenty-seven years. He is the author of five children's novels, one adult novel and a memoir, Sea of Love, Sea of Loss. His children's novel The Summer of Lily and Esme won the Bisto Book of the Year award in 1992. He now lives in County Galway. His father was a Garda sergeant stationed for a time in Ballivor, where John spent his earliest years. He has published his memoirs 'Goodnight Ballivor, I’ll Sleep in Trim'.
