Deluge: Extensive flooding in Walterstown and other parts of Meath

This morning residents of Walterstown who live close to the local church woke up to see a deluge of flood water flowing around local roads.

Residents were surprised at the level of water as there didn't appear much rainfail during the night - at least not enough to cause a deluge to flow through the church carpark and along a stretch of road that leads to Garlow Cross.

Some years ago after a few hours of very intense rainfall flooding caused extensive damage to the church and a nearby house. However, Meath Co Council did carry out some drainage work that has helped to ensure the same level of flooding has not re-occured.

However as the video shows more work is needed to prevent the kind of deluge that flowed down the road this morning. One pipe installed by the Council was clearly inadequate to take all the water. There was also flooding on some roads close to Kentstown and Navan.
