No suspension of Navan roadworks

A call for the immediate suspension of roadworks around Navan which has been causing traffic chaos for  the last  two months, failed to get support at a meeting of Navan Municipal District Council last week on the grounds that they couldn't be suspended without causing greater disruption.

Cllr Wayne Forde had called for the immediate suspension of resurfacing around the town.

"Our town is being desroyed with all road works going on around Navan at the same time.

"We are losing business locally, left, right and centre, and the local shops are paying huge rates as it is," he said.

He was told resurfacing on the N51 was now complete, while the work at the Solstice roundaout was at an advanced stage and it wasn't feasible to suspend those works as would cause even graeater disruption now.

His failed to get a seconder for his motion.
