Eamonn with the bank signage

Ophelia takes out AIB sign with a bank draught

MICHAEL DOWLING

As people around Ireland recovered from Storm Ophelia one local man was left picking up the pieces in the centre of Navan town.
Eamonn O'Reilly found a large sign from AIB Bank that had been withdrawn with force from the building onto Trimgate street on Monday night. He was going to put it leaning against the wall of the bank but instead saved it in his hallway before depositing it to the bank the next morning.
He got in touch with us because he thought his story might generate some interest.
"The storm was really taking off and I was walking down the street when the sign came off. It was too dangerous to leave it aginst the wall so I left in the hallway of my house", said Eamonn.
"The people working in the bank were in shock when they saw me coming in with the sign, but they were very grateful. It was all very funny. That's my good deed for the day!"
Eamonn was glad no-one was injured by the falling sign but refuses to take any credit.
