The damage caused to Patricia O'Brien's dog grooming room in Nobber

Dog groomer's premises devastated by storm

A north Meath dog groomer has been left counting the cost of Storm Ophelia after her dog grooming room was devastated when a tree fell on it yesterday afternoon.

Patricia O'Brien was running her "Grooming Marvellous" business from a wooden shed beside her home at Drumconrath Road, Nobber, which has been totally destroyed after a 60ft tree split and fell on it.

However, Patricia had a lucky escape as she had been in the room just an hour before to take a client's dog from the groom room into her home. The storm also blew some slates from the roof of her house.

"I heard an almighty crash. I ran down the stairs and saw the whole room was devastated after a 60 ft tree split in half and fell on it.

"The roof is gone. It is like the whole structure buckled. It will have to be taken down and made safe.

"I had been in there just an hour earlier. The tree could have fell on me. I was lucky."

However, it means Patricia has lost her grooming room and for now she will continue the business in her house until she can rebuild it. She has thanked local dog groomers for their support and offers of help.
