WATCH: Moment Deputy Shane Cassells confronts Garda Commissioner with Meath Chronicle front page story

Tackling crime in Meath and the need for more Gardai on the streets and not in offices were key points raised with the Garda Commissioner at the PAC today.

Deputy Cassells highlighted the recent attack on Navan store owner Ciaran Reilly outside his own premises and where his father, 73-year-old Tommy, had to intervene to help him. A number of youths have since been arrested and charged with the incident.

Commissoner O'Sullivan told the committee there was a 'palpable' feeling of people being reassured by more 'boots on the ground.'

'Not in my county, not in my town' retorted the Fianna Fail TD who said it had taken the exposure of the incident in the local and national media to bring about arrests.
