Residents prepare to fight proposed five storey development

Residents of Beaufort Place in Navan are determined to fight proposals for a five storey housing development, which they say will tower over their homes, increase traffic congestion, overlook a Monterssori school playground and lead to anti social behaviour.

At a public meeting in the Round O last week, there was a huge turn out of local residents who are opposed to the development.

Stephen Dillon, who lives in the area, said it would be towering over the other houses and warned there will be a lot of objections to the planning permission from the local area.

Among those who attended last week's meeting were the Mayor of Navan, Cllr Francis Deane,  Cllrs Tommy Reilly, Wayne Forde and Joe Reilly.

'There is a lot of opposition because of the height of the building. It will be five storeys in parts and will be towering over us,' said Mr Dillon.
'It will be totally out of charachter with the rest of the buildings.'

Mr Dillon said the proposed housing unit, will not have driveways and there will be a bin storage facility, which will increase the risk of dumping, rat and anti social behaviour.

'The development will also lead to a big increase in traffic congestion, which is very serious already.

'It is quite bad a tthe moment  with cars coming to a local Montessori school, St Pauls and St Olivers National Schools.  This development will add about 100 more cars to that,' he said.

Catherine Mullen of Scoil na nÓg Montessori School said she was objecting becase of a child preotection issue.

'I have been established 17 years and there is nobody overlooking me. If this goes ahead there will be a five storey lock looking in on top of us. It is a complete invasion of privacy and not in keeping with this area of the town,' she said.

Permission is being sought by JA Mannion Construction Ltd for proposed development, which would  include the construction of three 21 three bedroom two storey and dormer houses in terraces of three and four, all with private back gardens.
Permission is also being sought for 17  two bed units and nine three bed units in a block ranging from two to five storeys. All apartments will have balconies and the apartment block includes 339m2 of shared roof terraces; the development will also include 87 surface car parking spaces, 26 bicycle parking spaces, bin stores, switch room, new boundary treatments, hard and soft landscaping with vehicular access from the Beaufort Place Housing development and new pedestrian entrances on Beaufort Road and Proudstown Road.

JA Mannion Construction did not respond to a request for comment.
