Cast members from ‘The Snapper' after they wrapped up filming at The Malthouse pub in Trim

Star studded cast for Trim Oskars

A touch of Hollywood glamour comes to Trim tomorrow night when the local St Mary’s Convent Primary School presents ‘The Oskars’ in the local Knightsbrook Hotel.

A somewhat different take on the famous night of Los Angeles glitz each February, the event is a fundraiser for the school’s outdoor multi-use games area which will allow children to use the space from November to April each year as well as for PE lessons and other extra-curricular activities.
The cost of the project is about €150,000, all of which must be raised through voluntary means. The school ran a very successful Strictly Come Dancing event last year, with proceeds also going to the games area fund.
Over 40 locals, most of them with no acting or drama experience whatsoever, signed up for The Oskars earlier this year and underwent an auditions process back in March before being put through their paces during a number of intensive acting and performance training workshops throughout April and May to prepare them to act in a number of scenes from iconic movies and TV series from the past.
The movies chosen are ‘A Few Good Men’, ‘The Snapper’, ‘Forrest Gump’, Jerry Maguire’ and ‘Sister Act’ and the TV series are ‘Fr Ted’ and ‘Absolutely Fabulous’.
A number of scenes from each movie and TV series are filmed and edited to create a seamless seven- or eight-minute ‘mini-movie’ which will be screened at a gala Oskars awards ceremony in Trim’s Knightsbrook Hotel tomorrow night, Friday 19th May, starting at 7.30pm.
Shooting of the movie scenes involving a professional camera crew and director/producer from Kevin Rowe Events took place at a number of locations around Trim, including Trim Courthouse and St Joseph’s Community Nursing Unit.
All the actors will walk the red carpet on the night and will compete for Oskars for best actor, best supporting actor, best actress, best supporting actress and best movie. These will be awarded based on a combination of judges’ votes and votes sold on the night.
A further Oskar will be awarded to the highest individual fundraiser as well as for the best grossing movie.

Tickets for what promises to be a unique night’s entertainment are available from St Mary’s Convent Primary School, telephone (046) 943 1919 or email marystrim@eircom.net
