Burst water mains in Trim

Residents of the Newtown and the Navan Road in Trim have once again been left without water today after the water mains burst.

The water pipe which runs the length of the Lackanash Road has burst several times in recent years and was due to be replaced in the first quarter of this year but it has been put back until next year.

The latest burst has seen water disruptions in Navan Road, Old Lackanash Road, and Newtown and the affected estates include De Lacey Court, Hamilton Court, Gort Na Ri, Lackanash, Steeple Manor and Newtown Abbey.

Meath County Council on behalf of Irish Water has advised residents in these areas that there wwill be water disruptionsuntil 7pm due to the burst watermain.

Trim councillor Ronan McKenna, who lives in Lackanash, has said it is 'unacceptable' that residents are continually being inconvenienced and he has called on Irish Water to revise their works schedule and prioritise the replacement of the pipe.

He said: 'I am calling on Irish Water to revise their schedule and go back to the agreed timefarme and replace the pipe from Marcie Regan's To White Lodge B&B without further delay.

'It is unacceptable to have so many residents in Newtown and on the Navan Road continually inconvenienced to such a degree. Irish Water was set up to solve problems. If this pipe replacement was still in the remit of Meath County Council, it would have been done by now'.

Irish Water had initally said it would replace the water pipe in the first quarter of this year but now Cllr McKenna said it has been pushed out by at least 12 months.

'This is the fifth outage in two years because of a burst on that pipe,' said Cllr McKenna. He added that he had also contacted Deputy Shane Cassells to escalate the problem.
