Broadband down in Trim

Thousands of homes and businesses around Trim have been left without broadband this afternoon. Local businesses have been told by Eir that it could be 7pm this evening before the broadband is restored.
One local garage said their ATM, bill pay and phone top ups were affected and it also caused problems for their credit card machines. However, their lotto machine is in operation. Their broadband went down shortly before 12noon and
when they contacted Eir were told worst case it would be 7pm this evening before it would be fixed and that 14,000 customers were affected.
Supervalu supermarket's internet was also down but it is understood their card payment facilities were able to operate as usual.

The fault relates to fixed line broadband only.

Local councillor Noel French said:'It is a sign of our dependence on internet for business and personal use that this can happen and can really affect both business and personal lives so much.'
