Controversial N51 plan given green light

The controversial proposals for the realignment of the N51 at the Slane/Navan Road got the go ahead at a special meeting of Navan Municipal District Council this morning.

Councillors voted to accept the proposals with a number of minor amendments, which included an acknowledgement by the council of the considerable inconvenience the proposed plan will cause to some residents along the route.
A residents liaison committee will be formed and recognised by the council to represent the views and concerns of residents throughout the process.
The council will work with the the NTA and Bus Eireann to provide safe and accessible bus stops on the upgraded route as it recognises the importance of public transport to alleviate some local needs. Where possible, anti-dazzle barriers and sound barriers should be substituted with clay barriers and landscaped with natural planting
The amendments were proposed by Cllr Sinead Burke and supported by all councillors with the exception of Cllr Wayne Forde.
Speaking after the meeting, Cllr Burke said, 'These additions are not completely what the residents and I wanted, but to be realistic it was the best we were going to get. I 'm still not convinced the proposed plan is the best option for the Dunmoe community.”
