'I've Scott something to ask you'

There were surprises and celebrations aplenty in Navan restaurant Copper & Spices last Thursday night when Navan Rugby Club made a surprise presentation to Scott Ennis who recently retired from the club.
And Scott had a surprise of his own when later in the evening he went down on bended knee to propose to his partner of nine years Karen Smyth.
“The presentation was a complete surprise to me. It’s a busy time at work so I reluctantly agreed to go and meet a few friends in the Royal Meath. When we went on down to Copper & Spices, there were 30 odd people there, all from the club,” said Scott.

“We had a lovely meal and a few glasses of wine and a few pints. I had recently retired from the rugby club after 13 years and they said some very nice very kind words about me and presented me with a Genesis piece depicting a rugby tackle. I said a few words thank them and then I thanked Karen who also spent a lot of time at the club working with the minis and the youths and the next thing I was on bended knee proposing.

“It was completely spur of the moment. I had no ring on me but I had the words and I had the crowd. It was a complete surprise to Karen. Thankfully she said yes.”
Scott said there was huge excitement and plenty of bubbles and celebrations.
“Everyone was amazed at the proposal. They were all delighted. Everyone knew at some stage myself and Karen would tie the knot and were waiting for me to pop the question.”
The occasion was a surprise presentation to Scott to thank him for his contribution to the club where he served as a coach, manager and coordinator as well as being involved in setting up the successful under 20 programme.
Scott expressed his gratitude to Billy Faulkner and Ciaran Murphy for organising the presentation, Ita Lynch for the photos, Copper & Spices restaurant and all those in attendance for being part of a magical night.
