Richard E Grant in online Newgrange film

A new online film starring actor Richard E Grant exploring Ireland’s Ancient East, including Newgrange, has been unveiled. It’s the fourth in the series of short films created by Tourism Ireland and Smooth Radio to highlight the island of Ireland to holidaymakers in Great Britain.

In the film, viewers see Richard E Grant travel to Newgrange, which he describes as “absolutely magical”, as well as Kilkenny and Powercourt House and Gardens.

Julie Wakley, Tourism Ireland’s Deputy Head of Great Britain, said: “Our promotion with Smooth Radio and Richard E Grant was specifically designed to highlight holidays and short breaks on the island of Ireland. We were really pleased to work with Richard E Grant, as he’s a great fit with our important ‘culturally curious’ audience. We are continuing to promote Co Meath and Ireland’s Ancient East, encouraging prospective British visitors to come and discover 5,000 years of history for themselves.”

The campaign – which was rolled out in two phases – reached about 5.5 million people across Britain. The series of films was promoted on the Smooth Radio website and through on-air mentions. They’ve also been shared on Tourism Ireland’s website, Ireland.com, and via social media – targeting Tourism Ireland’s audience on Facebook (almost 450,000 fans in Britain alone) and Twitter (more than 70,000 followers).
