Turkeys in fine voice in Kells

Meath chefs, Pauric White and Stephen Brown, visited the birds for their festive menus last week at Maperath Farm.
Eoin Sharkey, is now in his fifth year of producing premium certified free range bronze turkeys and geese from the farm just outside Kells. With the arrival of the ‘Place on a Plate’ initiative by the Boyne Valley Food Series this year, chefs and eateries are encouraged to support small local producers.
Chefs such as Pauric and Stephen are encouraging others to follow suit and make contact with their local producers, visit their farms and welcome them to their kitchens too.
According to Failte Ireland Food Champion Olivia Duff; “This has never been so important as at Christmas, a time we honour tradition and forgotten skills.
“More importantly, supporting local small producers at Christmas time has a major impact on the local economy, customers want to know where their food is coming from and we have such a wealth of amazing locally produced quality food in the Boyne Valley for Christmas’.

A Boyne Valley Food Box and hampers are available also this Christmas, encouraging people to give the gift of local produce.
Eoin Sharkey has been lobbying for the past three years for a published list of Certified Free Range and Organic Producers to be published on the run up to Christmas and the Department of Agriculture is finally publishing the list this year.
