Death of Dunshaughlin publican, Brendan Murray

Dunshaughlin publican Brendan Murray has died. The retired proprietor of the well-known public house which bore his family name passed away on Sunday evening in the Mater Hospital.
In his early 90s, Brendan was a keen athlete and boxer in his youth, and later an accomplished draughts player.
He took over the running of the pub from his father, Peader, who was a founder of Conradh na Gaeilge in Dunshaughlin an associate of Sean T O Ceallaigh and Douglas Hyde. Peader also was a photographer in the days when cameras were a rarity, and Brendan was the custodian of his father's photo archive. His mother, Margaret, was a member of Meath County Council.
Bren ran the pub and hardware element of the business, while his wife, Teresa ran a drapery overhead. They retired in 1995 and the pub became Catty Neds, and then Peter's, now owned by Peter Duffy.
Bren is survived by Teresa, daughter, Cecily, sisters, Grainne and Ita, brother, Fr Aidan, grandchildren Blánaid, Doireann and Éanna, son-in-law Billy, nieces, nephews, relatives and a wide circle of friends.
He is reposing at his residence from 2pm on Tuesday. Removal on Wednesday morning at 10.30am arriving at Ss Seachnall's and Patrick's Church, Dunshaughlin for 11am Funeral Mass, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
