Valuable items in cancer charity auction tonight

The North East Cancer Research and Education Trust is hosting a Fine Art Silent Auction to help raise funds to support the purchase of a Next Generation Gene Sequencing Machine. This ground-breaking technology enables cancer patients to receive a more precise diagnosis and thus facilitate more effective individualised cancer treatment, possibly avoiding more toxic treatments that may be unnecessary.
NECRET is a registered charity, established in 2005, who raise funds to support the delivery of cutting edge cancer care to patients attending the Oncology and Haematology Unit of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital from counties Louth, Meath, Cavan and Monaghan.

One of 21 professional and amateur artists that have donated to a wonderfully diverse range of work including paintings, drawings, etchings and sculpture is Mayo based Australian sculptor Mark Rode who’s major public commissions include Barack Obama Bust and The Quiet Man Statue.

“My colleagues and I are most appreciative that this fabulous event has been organised in our aid. Such support will help advance our work which will ensure patients receive the very best, most up to date treatment and care” said Consultant Medical Oncologist Professor Bryan Hennessy who will open the event.

The auction will be held on Friday 25th November at 7.30pm at The Governor’s House, Millmount, Drogheda. This evening promises to be a special event as the Christmas season begins and will include a performance by awarding winning St Peter’s Male Voice Choir.

Other highlights of the auction include: two limited edition etchings by local artist and exhibitor at The RHA Annual exhibition Raphael Hynes; a drawing by New York exhibited artist Jackie Hudson Lalor; a painting by Dublin based artist and architect Charles Hulgraine

Jackie Hudson Lalor said: “It’s a privilege to be involved and it’s great to see that there have been some truly generous donations. The auction is a fantastic event where people stand the chance to not only take home some truly remarkable art, but also know that their final bid will be donated to such a worthy cause”.
