Gardai investigate serious assault

Gardai are appealing for information following a serious assault on a 21-year-old man who was found with stab wounds on the Slane Road, near Townley Hall, Drogheda last night.

A member of the public alerted Gardai that there was a man walking along the Slane Road, covered in blood . The man was taken by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, for treatment. He had a number of stab wounds and a punctured lung. The injured man's condition is not believed to be life threatening.

A short time before the injured man was found, Gardai received a report of an altercation in a car with a number of occupants, at Knockcommon, Slane.

When gardai arrived at Knockcommon at around 10.30pm, they found blood on the ground and recovered a blade.

Responded to the call about the injured man about half an hour later, Gardai also found the suspect car- a red/wine Volkswagen Passat- in the Boyne Canal at Oldbridge.

Gardai are appealing for anyone who noticed suspicious activity around Drogheda, The Brink or the Slane Road near Townley Hall between 10pm and 11pm last night, to contact Navan Garda Station on (046) 9079930.
