Anne Crinion and grandson Jake collaborate in new book

Trim photographer Anne Crinion illustrates the changing face of the town in her new book ‘Trim in Old Photographs’, a collaboration with her eldest grandchild Jake, which will be launched this week.

Published by the History Press, the book is part of the popular ‘Ireland in Old photographs’ collection and features over 150 photographs with detailed captions. There is a foreword by Ken Davis, former editor of the Meath Chronicle and the book will be launched by Dr Michael Farry in Trim Castle Hotel on Thursday 10th November at 8pm.
In 2011, Anne, a retired photographer produced a book of her own photographs for her 70th birthday. She was approached to work on this latest publication but at first says she was nervous of taking on such a big project at her age.
'I had the family over for lunch one Sunday and was telling them about it and my eldest grandson Jake said he would help me with it,' recalled Anne.
While her previous book ‘50 years through the Eye of the Camera’ featured all of Anne’s own photographs, this book also features other photos, the oldest being from the Laurence Collection, dating back to between 1870 and 1914.
'Some of the photos are my own and other people gave me photos. It was a lot of work- we had to submit 200 pictures and 15,000 words. We also had to put it all into order and in chapters. Most of the pictures are more than 20 years old and one of a family home in the Maudlins is from 1915.'
Featuring local landmarks, people and snapshots of ordinary daily routines, each accompanied by a detailed caption, they portray the development of the town and show how life here has changed over the years.
Some of Anne’s favourite images include those of the Old Mill Race where her family home and images of the old gaol.
Anne’s grandson Jake also a native of Trim, is a film graduate who has worked on the History Channel’s series Vikings and Sky Atlantic’s Victorian-set Penny Dreadful.
