Planning permission for Shire's Dunboyne facility

Planning permission for the construction of Shire’s pharmaceutical facility at Dunboyne has been granted by Meath County Council.
The biopharmaceutical facility is proposed for Piercetown, Craddockstown and Ballymagillen on the old N3, now the R147, and the site includes the former Peters family holding.

Deputy Regina Doherty said the news was another win for Dunboyne.

“Dunboyne is set to be the beneficiary of some $600 million in investment for the initial works on the new pharmaceutical facility in Dunboyne. The decision by Meath County Council to grant planning permission for this new plant is yet another achievement following an array of recent victories for Dunboyne, including Facebook, agreement on St Peter’s COI site location, St. Peter’s College extension and the green light on zoning for 500 houses and an enterprise campus just outside the village.
“Later this year work will commence on a state of the art biotechnology manufacturing campus on a 120 acre site in Piercetown, giving way for over 400 permanent jobs. This investment by Shire will see Meath as the location to help meet growing demand for rare disease treatments. As with Facebook in Clonee, Shire’s decision to locate in Meath is a true reflection on the large pool of talent available locally and of course on our excellent connectivity.

“Meath’s local economy and highly skilled construction industry are also set to benefit from Shire’s announcement, on top of the planned 400 permanent jobs. Works in Dunboyne are due to commence later this year and it is expected that Shire will be operational as early as mid-2019.

Concluding, local Minister Doherty said “ in just a matter of months, Meath will begin to host hundreds of new jobs in the form of highly skilled, full time jobs in the areas of engineering and construction, R&D, operations, and technical staff.

“The message from Meath has been heard - we are open for business.”
