Young footballer critical following Navan accident

An 11-year-old boy remains in a critical condition in Temple Street Hospital after being knocked down by an articulated lorry at a busy Navan junction yesterday morning.

Elrich Caputo from Troytown Heights was on his way to a football match with Navan's Parkvilla Football Club when the tragic accident occurred at around 9.45am. It is understood the boy was crossing the road at Abbeylands South, opposite Navan Fire Station when he was struck by the lorry. He received medical attention almost immediately from a doctor and nurse who were on the scene. The injured boy was airlifted to Tallaght Hospital and then transferred to Temple Street where he is in intensive care.

A number of witnesses have already come forward and Gardai have asked for anyone else who witnessed the accident who has not yet come forward to please contact Navan Garda Station on (046) 9079930.

On its Facebook page yesterday, Parkvilla Football Club asked people to keep Elrich Caputo and his family in their thoughts and prayers. 'Please keep Elrich Caputo and his family in your thoughts and prayers. He was injured on his way to his match this morning,' the post said.
