New mining jobs for Navan

Up to 80 to 90 new jobs will be created by Navan based mining firm,  QME Mining Division,  which has won a substantial new contract with  Boliden Tara Mines.

The company, which is run by Peter McParland has been contract mining at Tara for around 10 years and recently won an international tender for underground development at the mine.

'The contract is for an initial two year period with an option to extend the contract further. There will be 5500 metres of development tunnelling carried out per annum and there will be up to 80/90 new jobs created,' said Mr McParland.

The Navan firm beat five international companies who were bidding for the work.

He said the work will be in the current mine and will assist in the mine's target of producing 2.6million tonnes per annum.

General Manager of Boliden Tara Mines, Jason Morin, said that the Navan company had competed against companies from Canada, Australia and other parts of Scandanavia for the contract.
