Cycle4life for Temple St in Dunboyne on Saturday

Organisers of a fundraising cycling event in Dunboyne are seeking riders young and old to join Irish cycling legend Sean Kelly help raise vital funds for the Temple Street Children’s Hospital in Dublin on Saturday.

The Cycle4Life charity sportive will start from the M3 Parkway train station. This year the annual fundraiser is being co-ordinated by Dunboyne Cycling Club and will run across four routes to cater for all ages and abilities with truncated family-friendly stages.

Experienced riders can tackle the 100km route, while intermediate riders may wish to register for the 55km version. A designated 7km route is on offer for families on the day, with a 1km 'kiddies route' also available. Since its inception four years ago, the Cycle4Life initiative has raised over €500,000 for the children's hospital which helped to fund essential projects to improve patient care.

Proceeds from the 2014 event were put towards a wholesale renovation of the St Joseph's Top Flat ward, which also saw the creation of a new isolation suite for patients. ln 2012 a donahttp://cmg-ed-robot02:8085/rc/tion of €126,884 helped the hospital acquire much needed equipment for its Intensive Care Unit. Ultrasound scanners and play equipment for the hospital's patients have also been purchased with some of the funds raised.

Dunboyne Cycling Club committee member, Kevin Owen, said: 'This is a great fundraising event which people feel passionately about and really feel empathy towards. The fantastic support we receive from our sponsors enables 100 per cent of what we raise through registrations and sponsorship to go directly to Temple Street. The more entrants we get the more money for Temple Street. It’s also a great way of keeping healthy and meeting new people, as well as supporting such a great cause.”

Rider entry to this year's advanced and intermediate routes are €79.95, while fees for the family route and kiddies’ route are €19.95 and €9.95 respectively. A commemorative cycling jersey for riders to wear with pride on the day is issued upon registering for the event.
