Get in shape on National Fitness Day

énergie fitness clubs countrywide, including Ashbourne and Drogheda,  are getting in shape for National Fitness Day, a new initiative promoted by Ireland Active, which takes place this Friday, 16th September.

Irish International hockey midfielder and Olympic team member, Kyle Good, launched the fitness clubs’ schedule of fun and free events for National Fitness Day at all eight énergie fitness locations countrywide.

Welcoming the inaugural National Fitness Day, the sporting student says representing Ireland in Rio was an absolute career high, especially as the players were the first Irish hockey team to compete at an Olympics since 1908, and the first team sport to represent Ireland at the games since 1948.

“It’s great to see Ireland Active and énergie encouraging people to get fit and look at the sporting and exercise options open to them. Yes, sporting competition at a senior level is fantastic, but everyone who works on their basic fitness is a winner in terms of energy, health, and wellbeing”, the Irish Olympian said.

Good’s team recorded Ireland’s first Olympic win against Canada in the competition group stages, losing out on a quarter final place by one goal to Argentina, ranked seventh in the world, who went on to take Olympic gold in Rio.
The Irish hockey team's Olympic journey has now seen them move from 12th to an all-time high of 10th in the world men’s hockey rankings!

Get Fit for Free

For National Fitness Day on Friday 16th the eight énergie fitness clubs will throw the doors open to all-comers who want to try out the facilities for free, and find a fitness routine that will suit them, according to Sandra Dunne, Operations Director of énergie fitness clubs.

New gym equipment, including the latest high performance Keiser indoor bikes, is currently arriving at the popular clubs, owned and operated by Prime Fitness.

Free masterclasses in everything from yoga to circuit training to spinning are scheduled at énergie fitness clubs around the country, as well as pool parties, gym and relaxation centre use, and access to the sports courts.

“Our fitness experts will be on hand to talk to people about their fitness goals, providing support and encouragement”, Sandra Dunne says.

There are also fitness competitions with great prizes on the day, and free draws to win club memberships compliments of Prime Fitness.

Attractions for all the family, young and old, include face-painting, music, and complimentary coffee and treats.
As well as free access on the day, visitors to énergie fitness clubs for National Fitness Day can also avail of special membership offers, such as bringing a friend along for free, a great way to catch-up and get fit!

Social and Physical Wellbeing!

Check with your local énergie fitness club for specific National Fitness Day schedules and deals, is the advice from Sandra Dunne of the Prime Fitness group.

“We’d encourage people to pop in at any time and check out the classes or equipment they’d like to try. Our team at énergie are friendly and welcoming, and we’re delighted to get to know visitors and their specific needs.

There is a real social dimension to exercise; making friends and catching up with them regularly at the gym or in the pool is fun, and provides the motivation to keep going”, Sandra Dunne explains.

According to Conn McCluskey of Ireland Active, National Fitness Day will be the biggest and most visible annual celebration of physical activity. Free access to gyms and sporting facilities as well as classes and talks will be widespread with something to suit everyone.

“Regular exercise is hugely beneficial, creating a healthy mind and body and a better quality of life. In partnership with great local fitness facilities like énergie fitness, we want to encourage everyone to grab a friend or partner and come along on National Fitness Day to check out the vast variety of options for getting and staying fit”, the National Fitness Day co-ordinator says.

European Week of Sport, in the second week of September, coincides with Ireland’s National Fitness Day, and is designed to encourage children between eight and 12 years old to take an interest in fitness as great basis for stress management and overall health and wellbeing.

Experts from énergie fitness clubs will be visiting a number of local schools around the country that week to organise fitness classes for their students and talk about the importance of physical activity, sport and exercise.
