Navan credit union to propose name change tonight

A proposal to change the name of St Mary’s Navan Credit Union is due to come before members at a special general meeting in the Newgrange Hotel tonight (Tuesday) at 8.15pm.
'Credit Union Plus Limited’ is the proposed new name that will be put before members for approval at the meeting.
A merger process was completed on 1st June last which saw the transfer of engagements of three credit union- Ballivor/Kildalkey, Ballyjamesduff and St Scire - to St Mary’s Navan Credit Union.
The enlarged credit union has a membership of more than 40,000.
A letter was recently circulated to members informing them of the name change proposal, which states: “Following on from the successful merger of Ballivor-Kildalkey Credit Union, Ballyjamesduff Credit Union and St Scire Credit Union with St Mary’s Navan Credit Union on 1st June 2016, the Board of Directors considers this an opportune time to review the positioning and branding of the new enlarged entity.
“Following careful research to position the credit union as the financial service provider of first choice for our members and prospective members, the Board of Directors proposes to change the name of the credit union to reflect the new identity and future direction of the organisation.
“The selection of the proposed name was a careful process and better reflects the more inclusive nature of who we have become and will prompt a series of future enhancements including new branch locations and a web/mobile presence.”
St Mary’s Navan Credit Union was founded in 1963 and opened for business at the old Forresters Hall. The credit union rented premises at Ludlow Street and Bakery Lane before purchasing a property on Railway Street in 1968. Navan Credit Union moved to its new offices on Kennedy Road in 1988 which was extensively extended in 2005.
