Death of former Curraha parish priest

The death has occurred of Fr Edmond (Ned) Daly, retired parish priest of Kilcormac in Co Offaly.

A native of Summerhill parish, he was educated at St Finian's College and Maynooth and was ordained in 1955. Following seven years of work in the Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin, he served in the parishes of Coole, Daingean, Delvin, Kingscourt and Glasson. He was appointed Chaplain to the Forces in Gormanston Camp in 1969 and served with the 18th Infantry Unit on peacekeeping duty with the UN in Cyprus in April 1970. After his UN leave, he was appointed curate in Tullamore and then to Rosemount.

In 1984 Fr Daly was appointed PP in Curraha and moved as parish priest to Kilcormac in 1989 where he retired in 2009.

His remains will reose in Saint Brigid's Church Mountbolus on Thursday from 2pm until 6pm with removal to the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Kilcormac arriving for 7pm.

Funeral Mass on Friday at 12 noon with interment in the church grounds.
