Meath cycle tour 100km start

Cycling legends Philip Cassidy and Laurence Roche were the star attractions as the crowds, spectators and participants thronged Trim this morning for the start of the Meath LSP / An Post Meath Heritage Cycle Tour 100-kilometre with at 9.30am.

Meath LSP co-ordinator Mary Murphy was delighted with the turn-out for the 100km tour with close to 1,600 taking part - some 800 set off from the start of the 160km.

Next up is live coverage of the Tara Loop - a 50 km event.

Like the longer event, the 100km is promoted by Meath Local Sports Partnership. The tour has been an outstanding success with in excess of 3,500 cyclists of all ages and cycling abilities taking part in 2015.

There are four routes in the event for 2016 with the family spin taking place yesterday over an 11-kilometre route and it was open to all over six-years, cyclists under 12 had to be accompanied by an adult with some 1,000 setting out from the start.
