Prices are frozen for a year but here's what your bin charges could look like

Members of the Irish Waste Management Association (IWMA) today committed to freezing prices at current rates from 20th June, 2016 to 1st July 2017.

In a statement the IWMA said: “This means that no householder disposing the same quantities of waste will face any additional charges during the first 12 months of pay-by-weight.

The Pay-By-Weight waste-management scheme was due to come into effect for all households in Ireland next month.

However, amid growing criticism about proposed increasing in standing charges for bin collection and unit weight prices, Minister Coveney met with private waste operatorsn to tackle issue.

That has resulted in prices being frozen for the next 12 months while the scheme is reviewed.

The Opposition had accused the Government of failing to act on the matter and the issue is due to be debated in the Dáil and Seanad this week.

The proposed minimum charge rates are:

Residual household waste (black or grey bin): 11c per kg
Food waste (brown bin): 6c per kg

However individual per kilo charges being proposed by waste companies are considerably higher than that.

Here's how two Meath operators websites were breaking down their Pay by Weight charges.
