Táin March to stop off in Kells

The Táin March, which celebrates the Cattle Raid of Cooley, will pass through Kells tomorrow.

There will be a costume walk at 5pm from the car park at the Spire of Lloyd into Kells with a welcome for Queen Maeve by the Kells Silver Band at St Colmcille's Church car park, at 6pm.

The march is a unique walking and living-history cross-county festival now in its sixth year, which culminates in County Louth to celebrate the Táin Bo Cuailgne (The Cattle Raid of Cooley), Ireland’s most famous saga, and the warrior champions Cuchulainn and Ferdia.
A fun, family friendly event, the Táin March 2016 started on Saturday at Tulsk Visitor Centre, Rathcrogan, County Roscommon, and after 250km and 10 days will reach Omeath in County Louth on Bank Holiday Monday, 6th June.  Everyone is welcome to join the march as it reaches Kells tomorrow eveningl. The Headfort Arms Hotel will be supplying punch for all.
There will be further stops in Rathkenny and Ardee the next day.

Clubs and community groups are encouraged to use the Táin March as a fundraiser through sponsored walk cards, and workshops for national schools along the route have also proved to be very successful in the past.
Last year, one small national school’s parents’ association raised €8,000 alone.
