Meath TD escapes serious injury in car crash

The importance of wearing seat belts in saving lives, has been highlighted by Meath TD Peadar Tóibin, who was involved in traffic accident near his home on Sunday.
He believes that only for their seat belts, the incident would have had devastating consequences.
The Deputy, his wife , Deirdre, and their four young children were travelling along Yellow Wall Lane to mass when they were involved in a collision with a van.
“The impact pushed our car back yards and into the ditch. We have cuts and bruising and are sore and stiff today. But given the strength of the impact and how young our children are, there is no doubt that only for the seat belts, one or more of us would have not survived it,” he said.
He thanked his neighbours who came to their aid, the Gardaí and the staff at Navan and Drogheda hospital for all their help.
“Thank God we were able to walk away,” he said.
