Here's Lucy - A month to go to the marathon

Can you believe it is the month of May already? The summer season is just around the corner for us all, it’s great.

Entering this week in the 14 stone bracket pushed my determination even further. I started my week by busting into resistance training which began with the legs. Since Operation Transformation has finished I haven’t done any resistance training. Let’s just say I could safely feel the pain in my legs for about four days, Epsom salts was my saviour.

On Saturday last, I got to meet up with my Operation Transformation lassies Clare and Noeleen down in Monagea, Limerick. Myself and my friend Paula took a three-hour spin down to take part in the 10km to remember Clare’s son Darra in aid of the charity CRY. I was overwhelmed with Clare’s community effort and support contributed to the event. Clare and Noeleen are both looking very well and are in great spirits.

On the day there was a 10km walk/run with four other options to cycle also which included the 25km, 70km, 110km and 125km.

It was a fantastic day and the atmosphere was electric.

This was my second ever 10km and I am proud to say I jogged the full route in just one hour, seven minutes. My timing is improving each race I take participate in. I can safely say I am not dreading 6th June anymore all I need to work on now is my speed.

I cooked tasty recipes with products from Hogan’s Farm this week which included homemade turkey burgers and turkey omelette. I have to say they were both so easily prepped and quite filling too. Looking back on my week I am happy as I did do a lot of meal and snack prep to keep me on the right track.

As part of the VHI Women’s Mini Marathon I have chosen to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society in memory of my mum, Therese. There are collection buckets in local shops to help me do this which include June’s Daybreak in Fordstown and Coles Supermarket in Kells. I will be hosting an event at the end of May, details are to be confirmed for this. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far.

The Royal County 5km and 10km took place in Kells on Monday; this was a huge success for the Meath Local Sports Partnership. Over 400 participants ran/walked the roads around Kells.

There was all ages and abilities which was fantastic to see.

Weigh in day is coming soon so fingers crossed it’s another loss to add towards my third stone award.
