Here's Lucy - running and trampolining!

Welcome to week five of my blog update. This week is full of joys and happiness. Let’s start with fitness. I completed the 10KM in Dundalk this week with a good friend who is also training for the VHI Women’s Mini Marathon. I was feeling nervous about the distance length as I have only completed 5KM this year so far. The route was amazing, we jogged all along Blackrock Beach and the coast. I felt so relaxed the whole way around and made sure I didn’t panic. The biggest difference was I set off on a steady pace and controlled my breathing. Before I knew it we were at the 7km sign post, I just couldn’t believe it. The feeling of happiness ran through my body. It gave me the confidence to keep going to the finish line. Out of the full 10KM we both walked about 1KM in total which I am chuffed with. I now know I am not afraid of the mini marathon in June.

I got my personal best timing at my local Park Run this week in Navan. Before I signed up for Operation Transformation it took me 45 minutes to complete a 5km as I was not able to jog it. I have lowered my time by 14 minutes. If I can do that, so can you. Download the couch to 5km app on your phone and it will take you through it each week. You won’t believe how amazing it feels to be able to jog the full 5km at the end of the training plan. A good start would be to register for your local park run & take it from there. They are on every Saturday morning at 9.30am and there is no cost to take part.

I took a trip up to the Air Bound Trampolining Park to help raise awareness for both adults and children with autism. While I was there I launched myself into the fun section, Trampolining. I had so much fun bouncing away and really felt it was a great form of exercise too.

I weighed myself at home this week, I am now in the 14 stone bracket. I have not been this weight in over three years. I am so happy and excited to continue this journey and have dropped two sizes in my work clothes so far. I am also four months off cigarettes.

I have a gym in just beside my workplace to start resistance training three times per week on my lunch break. I am so excited to start this training plan as it will help drop weight and tone up too. I prefer to keep my cardio exercise outdoor as I feel it’s me time and helps clear my head after a busy day.

This week I am doing lots of meal prep to keep on plan and focused. My biggest problem was the mornings; I would dash out to work and not take any lunch or snacks with me. I started preparing my food at night so I can just grab and go in the morning time before work.

I am settling in very well with the Meath Local Sports Partnership. The team is fantastic in what it delivers to people of all ages around the county from people with disabilities, the elderly and children. If you want to check out the upcoming courses you can visit www.meathsports.ie

If you dont have any plans this Bank Holiday Monday why not take part in the Royal County 5km & 10km taking place in Kells. You can register on http://www.meathsports.ie/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Royal-County-5k-10k-Entry-Form-20164.pdf
