Boyne Valley Tourism App launched

The new Boyne Valley Tourism App has been launched.
Packed with information, the app is free to download to iPhone and Android devices and provides tourists with all the relevant facts to enable them plan their trip to the Boyne Valley.
Some of the many features include a 'what’s on’ calendar and a 'my itinerary’ section that gives suggested three- or five-day itineraries for those planning a 'family fun holiday’ or a 'heritage and culture’ experience.
As the app is GPS enabled, it allows the user to access information on accommodation and attractions close to where the user is actually standing at any given time, and to make it even easier for the user,
they can get directions to a location, such as a hotel or attraction.
The Boyne Valley Tourism App works offline and there are no data or roaming charges.
The project was driven by the cultural tourism group who oversaw the development of the official Boyne Valley Tourism App.
With information very accessible and straightforward, along with geo-fencing technology, the app enables events in the local area to be highlighted to the visitor. Additionally, tourist providers can upload their own information and special offers.
There are four main sections on the launch page of the Boyne Valley Tourism App.

'Boyne Valley’, is a comprehensive section on what there is available in the area such as the Boyne Valley Drive, historic sites, historic trails, myths and legends, towns and a photo gallery, while the 'what’s on’ section has a calendar and list of what there is to do in the Boyne Valley.

A 'plan your visit’ element of the app the user can choose from categories including food and drink, places to stay, things to do and tourist information centres while the 'my itinerary’ section provides pre-planned itinerary options for three- and five-day stays in the Boyne Valley.

Noel French, chairman of Meath Tourism Ltd, said: “Taking into account that a large percentage of tourists use digital tools in search of the best experience before, during and after travelling, and that booking through mobile devices has increased, the launch of the official Boyne Valley Tourism App is very timely.
“Whether you are a tourist or a local, you will find the app has a wealth of information that will help you get the most from your visit to the Boyne Valley.”

The project is part-financed by the European Union’s INTERREG IVA cross-border programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body. The remainder of the funding was provided by Meath County Council.
