Purple Run in Park for Down Syndrome

Down Syndrome Ireland members are lacing up their running shoes to create awareness for this year’s World Down Syndrome Day, with the first ever 'Purple Run'. The charity organisation with the help of Matt Cooper, Today FM’s ‘The Last Word’, are encouraging people to get active by taking part in the run on Sunday March 20th at 12pm, in the Phoenix Park, Dublin.

The event is open to all age groups and abilities with the option of taking part in the 5km or 1km distance , allowing all the family to take part. Registration for the run takes place online, with an entry fee of just €10, people with Down syndrome and under sixteens can enter for free.

DSI will also host a free ‘Fun-Filled Family Carnival’ on World Down Syndrome Day itself, Monday March 21st, which takes place adjacent to the Phoenix Park Visitor Centre. Down Syndrome Ireland hope to mirror the success of previous awareness campaigns.

Pat Clarke, CEO, Down Syndrome Ireland said: “ World Down syndrome Day is about more than creating awareness, it is a celebration of every person with Down syndrome, their families and those who support them. Our organisation is a family led organisation that places the person with Down syndrome at the centre of everything we do. We are urging everyone to get involved in the Purple Run on March 20th and to come along to the carnival the following day.”
