'On The Dry' January coming to an end

As January draws to a close and pay-day arriving, model Fionnuala Short is cashing in pledges of support after an alcohol-free month of being On The Dry in aid of the Irish Heart Foundation. “Show me the money!” – is the blatant message to Kells comedian Fred Cooke to empty his money jar and pay up for a good cause!

Thousands around the country ditched the booze and took part in the On The Dry campaign supported by 2FM - a revolution in New Year's resolutions. Now with the final days in sight, the push is on to flex those fundraising muscles and call in support promises to raise vital funds to prevent heart disease and stroke.

More than 5,400 participants took part in the unique fundraiser. In a survey of last year’s participants, 62% said they had better sleep and more energy after taking part, 49% reported losing weight, 79% saved money and 82% said they felt a sense of achievement. Well known participants included 2FM’s Keith Walsh, comedian Fred Cooke, RTE Southeast correspondent Damien Tiernan and Lucinda Creighton TD.

Every euro raised from On The Dry will support the Irish Heart Foundation’s prevention programmes for children, adults and local communities which are vital to keep more hearts beating around Ireland.
