Burst Navan water main fixed

The burst water main which has left parts of Navan and the surrounding areas without water overnight has now been fixed and water will begin to return gradually this morning.

The incident happened at around 8.30pm last night on the Proudstown Road, close to Simonstown Gaels GAA Club, leading to a large flood in the area and making the road impassable. The road was closed and motorists were being diverted.

Work to repair the burst on a main feeder pipe has been going on throughout the night and a repair has now been effected. The road will be reopened within the next hour and it is expected that the supply will be gradually restored throughout the day as water pressure builds up, although it may be later in the afternoon before outlying ares have water restored.

Meath County Council has just issued the following update: 'Meath County Council, on behalf of Irish Water, wishes to advise residents in Navan and its environs that there will be water disruptions throughout the day due to a burst watermain. Supplies will be restored to Navan town throughout the morning and into the afternoon.'
