Trim hosts major meeting on crime

Journalist Paul Williams will chair a public meeting on crime in Trim’s Knightsbrook Hotel at 8pm tonight.
The aim of the meeting, organised by the north-east division of the Save Our Community committee, is to debate and discuss all aspects of crime in the community.
North-east division chairman Ronnie Owens said: “This meeting is a continuation of the national debate on rural crime by the ordinary citizens which began in Tipperary under the banner of the 'save our local communities’ campaign.
“This is a strictly non-political, community-focused initiative based on people power. We are the silent majority; the people who are expected to pay up, shut up and put up with our lot in life and not speak out.”
He said the 'monster meeting’ in Thurles in October showed that this was the ideal forum for people to express their justified concerns that crime has been allowed to get out of control “due to Government cutbacks, inaction and negligence”.
