Rose and handballers to be welcomed home

Navan and Kells are getting set to welcome home their conquering Rose and handball heroes this weekend.

On the Fair Green, Navan on Saturday evening, Meath's newly crowned International Rose of Tralee, Elysha Brennan from Bettystown, will be the guest of honour at a homecoming at 6.30pm.

She will be accompanied by 12 of her fellow Rose finalists, and their escorts, and will arrive in style for the celebrations. Band the Furry Gilberts will be providing entertainment, and all are invited to welcome home Meath's first ever Rose.

Parking restrictions will be in place around the Fair Green from this evening.

In Kells on Saturday evening, the local handballers who won medals at the World Handball Championships in Calgary, Canada, at the weekend, will be feted.

Gary McConnell won the A title and Christy McGovern took gold in the Golden Masters Doubles, with Dunshaughlin native Egin Jensen. Michael Sheridan won a silver with Tyrone's Mark McCartan, in the Masters Doubles event.

Kells Handball Club is parading their champions around the town from 4.45pm, arriving back at the clubhouse for a reception at 5.30pm. All are welcome to congratulate the players.
